November at The Real Work! Walk and Talk Therapy for Parents; Nature-Based Play Therapy with Bonnie, and More!

Your monthly news and resources to help you stay connected, get inspired, and have more confidence as a family.

Hi families, how are you holding up?

It's November, it's getting colder, election is in full swing, and many families are experiencing both celebrations and also a buildup of fall stressors and holiday anxiety.

Navigating the these months comes with anxiety, expectations, guilt, or even grief, especially if you're part of a neurodivergent family, dealing with mental health concerns, changes in your family unit, or you are part of a marginalized group.

We are here to help--please don't hesitate to reach out to us for support this time of year.

On that note, here are some news and supports to brighten your week:

Introducing Jenn, our Walk and Talk Therapist for Parents!

👍 Wait a therapist who helps parents by getting us outside, moving our bodies, AND processing the unique stressors that come with parenting? YES PLEASE! We are thrilled to introduce Jenn Mohn to all of you! Jenn will be providing nature-based walk and talk therapy to parents at the THPRD Nature trails in Beaverton!

Jenn believes that all clients can heal and grow within safe, connected, and healthy relationships. When working with Jenn, clients will be supported by nature and movement and will be empowered to tap into their strengths and inner wisdom to learn how to live a more resilient, authentic life.

Currently, Jenn uses a client-centered, strengths-based, walk-and-talk therapy approach with her individual adult clients, meaning that sessions are most often held outside while walking together on a local nature trail. Being in nature is scientifically proven to reduce stress, increase emotional regulation, and promotes a sense of awe and well-being.

Speaking of Nature, Meet Bonnie Davey, the creator behind our lovely nature-based play therapy space!

Research is continually highlighting the benefits of children’s contact with nature. Some of these benefits include:

  • Increased self-regulation
  • Improved academic performance with enhanced memory and attention
  • Positive social developmental interactions
  • Positive behavioral changes
  • Increase in cognitive and emotional mental health
  • Increased imagination and creativity.

Issues that can be supported with NBCCPT include ADHD, depression, anxiety, sensory processing differences, trauma, social/emotional support, adjustment difficulties, and dysregulation.

Bonnie has a select number of nature-based and in-clinic openings Wednesdays and Thursdays before 2:00, for kids ages 3-7

Hi all! Rebekah here! Amber just sent me her flyer for her new book club and it looks amazing, so I decided to pass it along to all of you! It would be awesome if a group of us could come together to join her for this! Here are the details: Many kids struggle with frustration, inflexibility, and emotional outbursts—not because they want to be difficult, but because they don’t yet have the skills to handle frustration, communicate needs, or problem-solve effectively. We are hosting a 6-week...

if you have a neurodivergent kid, you probably know that summer doesn't just "fall into place." The shift in routine, new environments, and unstructured time can be tough. That’s why I’m so excited about what we’re offering this summer:

Hi Reader! I know—it feels early to talk about summer, but if you have a highly sensitive or neurodivergent kid, you probably know that summer doesn't just "fall into place." The shift in routine, new environments, and unstructured time can be tough. Plus, traditional summer camps can be really really hard for some of our kids, and to be honest, it's just not fair! All kids should be able to have a summer-camp type experience that is fun, social, and even therapeutic. That’s why I’m so...
